From the heart..
When I think back to the weddings that have stayed with me the most, they've never been about polished perfection. They've been about the little details that carry meaning, the song choices, homemade cakes baked with love, and the confetti made with rose petals from your Grandmas garden.
There's magic in these touches. They're imperfect, in the most beautiful way, because they tell a story. Where you came from, the people who helped shape you, and the love that makes this day truly yours.
Why Vintage Details Hold So Much Charm
Vintage dresses, jewellery or decor don’t just look beautiful- they carry a sense of nostalgia and timeless romance- they connect the present moment with stories of the past.
Whether it’s family heirlooms, second hand treasures or something symbolic to you, these touches often mean more than anything brand new ever could. Finding something special from a vintage fair or even charity shop can feel like it was meant to be!
Sometimes it’s even more than that. One of my brides chose confetti made from dried rose petals gathered from her Grandmothers garden, who she sadly lost the year before- so her presence was felt in the most gentle and beautiful way.
Theres also a sustainable side to vintage or preloved items. By reducing, reusing, recycling, and treasuring what already exists, you’re making choices that are kinder to the planet.
(I'll be sharing more soon about some of my favourite places in Leeds to find vintage wedding gowns, so if that's your dream, keep an eye out for that blog post!)
Handmade Touches That Tell Your Story
Handmade details add warmth to a wedding day. One of my brides created her own bouquet of white roses, not just to save money, but because it meant spending precious time together with her mum and sisters in the lead up to the wedding. Those quiet shared moments become part of the story, woven into the flowers she carried down the aisle. Handmade elements like this remind us that real hands and hearts helped to craft the celebration.
These details don't just decorate the day, they embody the care, creativity and love that makes your day unique.
Presence Over Perfection
Weddings are about being present, not getting everything right. The magic is always in the moments you don’t plan. Imperfectly perfect moments, laughter, wind blown hair, cake that leans a little, are often the ones people remember most.
A wedding is not a photoshoot, it’s a living, breathing celebration of love- those candid and slightly chaotic moments are the ones that linger in your heart.
Why These Details Photograph So Beautifully
Vintage textures, like lace, wood or glassware- don’t just look lovely on the day, they photograph with depth and soul- catching light in unique ways, creating warmth and richness in your photos. Handmade details stand out because they’re one of a kind, and that individuality comes across in every frame. And most of all, when details hold meaning, they naturally radiate beauty- and your photos tell a deeper story.
WEDDINGS AREN'T ABOUT STAGING PERFECTION, THEY'RE ABOUT CELEBRATING YOUR LOVE, YOUR WAY.
The Heart of It All…
At the end of the day, weddings aren’t about staging flawless perfection- they’re about celebrating your story in a way that feels true to you. Vintage and handmade details carry a kind of magic because they’re soaked in memory, love, and intention. They’re the little touches that make your wedding yours, and they’re often the things people remember most. As a photographer, those are the moments I love capturing: the lace with history woven into it, the bouquet made with family, the details that speak of heart over trends.
